6th History Group Workshop
Geometry in Design
9th to 13th February 2015

A History Group Workshop ‘Geometry in Design’ was conducted in DAP-NED, with special emphasis for developing design skills in building traditions of the Sub-Continent. The workshop conductor was Taimoor K. Mumtaz and the duration was from 9th – 13th February, 2015, during 9 am- 5pm.

The workshop focused on the geometrical patterns of Islamic art and architecture so as to understand the methods and vocabulary of designing used in the traditional architecture of Pakistan. The workshop started with an introduction to geometric patterns and their proportioning. It was then followed by a site visit to Sina Trust Clinic in Shrieen Jinnah Colony, Karachi. This visit provided a chance to participants to explore the practical implications of already discussed geometric patterns.

Exuberant exercises were carried out from sketching, drawing, drafting followed by model making exercises, which further enhanced their understanding of geometry and their 3D compositions.
